Since its establishment in 1989, St Euphemia Primary School has always focused on offering the highest possible standard of quality education. The quality of this education caters for the individual needs and talents of all students, and is delivered in all contexts of students’ intellectual, physical, spiritual and emotional development.
Twenty years on, it is apparent that the school has achieved success on many levels. Academic excellence is evident through consistently high results in NAPLAN (National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy) and in the ICAS Competitions (International Competitions and Assessments for Schools).
Mindful of this, St Euphemia Primary does not rest on its laurels. Following the school’s motto “Strive for Excellence”, St Euphemia Primary endeavours to continuously achieve just that.
The instruction in each class at St Euphemia Primary School caters for individual differences. Differentiation as such, enhances the abilities and skills within each child. The literacy and numeracy classes that operate within the school serve as additional support for students who require further assistance outside the classroom. Students’ basic skills improve and they become active participants in their education.
Likewise, gifted classes have been operating at the school to further extend the more capable students. In 2009 these classes will be running as Opportunity Classes. The OC classes will comprise of the more academically capable students, who will be offered enrichment and advanced work.
Research in bilingual education points out that the acquisition of a second language assists in a better understanding and achievement of the English language. St Euphemia is currently home to students from 21 different linguistic and cultural backgrounds. The students are drawn to our school due to the emphasis given on quality education and at the same time are exposed to the rich Hellenic heritage when learning Greek as a second language.
I welcome students of Serbian, Chinese, Lebanese, Italian backgrounds and students of other nationalities to St Euphemia Primary School as they enrich our school with their traditions and cultures.
The school is also excelling in many other areas, making its students and teachers very proud. Many teams in various competitive sports throughout the years have reached the finals and won Championships. In music, students have performed in various concerts and participated in the Millennium Choir.
The promotion of healthy eating and fitness is a priority for St Euphemia Primary, thus putting into practice the ancient Greek saying “sound mind and sound body”. (Νους υγειής εν σώματι υγιή).
All these fine achievements are due to the combined efforts of the students and the teachers whom I thank and congratulate for all their hard work and dedication and to the parents for entrusting their children’s education to us.
